THE NEED
Current methods for monitoring X-ray machines require up to 14 manual exposures per system each month, extensive documentation, and subjective image analysis—consuming hundreds of hours annually per department. As healthcare systems face staff shortages, there's an urgent need to reduce administrative workload and ensure objective, consistent equipment control.
THE SOLUTION
AI-Cons reduces the required number of exposures per system and automates the entire analysis process. The AI algorithm evaluates phantom images and DICOM data to assess quality, dose, and any deviations from reference values. Results are delivered in real time via an integrated monitoring system, ensuring faster, safer, and more reliable checks—freeing up clinical staff for patient care. The intention is to expand the system to the rest of the Capital Region, involving additional modalities.

PROJECT SUMMARY
AI-Cons is an AI-powered system for automated constancy control of X-ray equipment, replacing today’s time-consuming and subjective quality checks with a faster, more accurate, and fully automated process.
Pilot project at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital, will be expanded to the rest of the Capital Region once the system is fully developed.
CLINICAL IMPACT
The system reduces annual staff time spent on constancy control by over 70%, allowing radiographers and physicists to focus on patient examinations. By providing objective, high-precision monitoring, AI-Cons improves patient safety and supports ALARA compliance by minimizing unnecessary radiation exposure. It ensures better quality assurance in critical care settings like trauma and neuro-intervention rooms.
