THE NEED
Rectocele affects approximately 4% of women globally, 16% postpartum, and nearly 19% of women over 50, with symptoms like heaviness, incontinence, and obstructed defecation significantly impairing quality of life. Current non-surgical treatments, such as pessaries, are ineffective for many women due to low usability, poor symptom control, and high discontinuation rates, while surgery is costly, risky, and unsuitable for many patients.
THE SOLUTION
Our device is made from medical-grade silicone, offering easy insertion and removal, effective rectocele symptom relief, and fewer side effects compared to traditional pessaries. The project also includes clinical validation, development of training materials for primary care providers, and a health economic analysis to ensure sustainable implementation.

PROJECT SUMMARY
The Medical Device for Rectocele is a soft silicone device designed to restore vaginal anatomy and provide precise support for rectocele bulging. It aims to replace inadequate pessaries and reduce the need for surgery.
CLINICAL IMPACT
The solution improves quality of life by reducing obstructed defecation, discomfort, and incontinence while providing a less invasive alternative to surgery. It enables safe self-management, reduces healthcare costs, and minimizes the risks and complications associated with current treatments.
