THE NEED
Up to 30% of hospitalized patients experience severe complications, often on general wards where 90% of patients are admitted. Current manual monitoring systems, such as NEWS, rely on intermittent measurements and fail to detect over 90% of physiological deviations. Staffing limitations and outdated monitoring workflows further delay early intervention, leading to preventable injuries, deaths, and increased healthcare costs.
THE SOLUTION
WARD uses CE-marked wireless sensors to continuously measure vital signs such as oxygen saturation, pulse, and blood pressure. An AI algorithm analyzes the data in real time, sending alerts only when deviations are linked to clinically significant outcomes—reducing irrelevant alarms and alert fatigue. Staff receive updates directly on their smartphones, enabling timely interventions and continuous patient surveillance without constant bedside presence.

PROJECT SUMMARY
WARD is an AI-based support system using wireless sensors to monitor vital signs and detect early complications in hospitalized patients. It provides real-time alerts to clinicians, improving patient safety, reducing undetected issues, and optimizing staff resources.
CLINICAL IMPACT
WARD detects complications earlier with proven 10% absolute (25 relative) reduction in complications, compared to current manual systems, while eliminating unnecessary alerts from simple threshold-based monitoring. This allows healthcare staff to act earlier, reducing the risk of permanent injury or death. It also optimizes staff time and increases patient safety on general wards, ultimately improving overall hospital efficiency.
