THE NEED
Children have unique physical and psychological needs in emergency care but constitute only a minority of patients, leading to insufficient pediatric competence and preparedness. This can result in harmful treatment, delays, medication errors, or inadequate pain management.
THE SOLUTION
The project strengthens pediatric readiness through multidisciplinary collaboration and digital support. The Akut Barn app provides age- and weight-specific guidance on equipment, medication, and emergency protocols for 30 life-threatening conditions, ensuring faster, safer, and more accurate care.

PROJECT SUMMARY
The Danish Pediatric Readiness Project enhances emergency care for children by improving staff readiness, equipment, and guidelines across Danish emergency departments and ambulance services. A key component is the Akut Barn app, offering fast, accurate, and age-specific treatment guidance.
CLINICAL IMPACT
The project reduces treatment errors and ensures faster, more accurate care for children. It shortens response times, improves pain management and sedation when needed, and increases survival while reducing long-term complications. A reliable medical app also helps lower psychological stress among healthcare professionals during pediatric resuscitation.
